Friday, May 5, 2017
Save the Date: Wednesday, May 31, 2017
Oakridge Public Schools will be hosting a Muskegon Area Promise night for students and parents of all grade levels to attend. It’s never too early to start helping your student plan for their future, and we would like to help arm Oakridge students and parents with tips on how to prepare for college. Whether your child is young, and has “plenty of time before you have to worry about college preparations” or your student is already in high school, this workshop is for you!
What is it? We are going to take the time to explain the Muskegon Area Promise – essentially earning 2 FREE Years of College after high school. (Not to be confused with dual enrollment, where high school students can earn college credits while still attending their Junior & Senior year of high school.)
When is it? The workshop will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 6:30 pm in the Oakridge High School Cafeteria. Don’t worry, free snacks will be available to those that attend.
Why is it important? We are going to give you all of the information you need to better understand the Muskegon Area Promise, so that your student can be eligible to take advantage of this opportunity. We are also going to explain how Khan Academy can help your elementary students prepare for academic testing throughout the year. Not only does this online service help sustain your child’s knowledge, but it also helps them prepare for important college-bound tests (like the SAT’s). Using these tools at a younger age can significantly raise your child’s SAT scores, and thus giving them access to more scholarship money in the future.
So, join us on May 31st to Explore the Possibilities!
