Thursday, February 8, 2018
The winning streak continues for the Oakridge Eagles Girls Varsity Basketball Team. The Lady Eagles defeated Mason County Central on Tuesday night (51-38) to solidify their 76th consecutive conference game. The winning streak spans over the past 5 and a half years.
“The team has been working hard, and it shows.”, says Head Coach Terry DeJonge. “Over the last 16 years our players, their parents, our coaches and I have built a very competitive program. It starts with the younger girls and continues until their varsity seasons. A lot of great people are responsible for our successes.”
In addition to the team’s success this season, one standout student-athlete has broken a record on her own. Sophia Wiard scored her 1,000th point in her career as an Oakridge Eagle. “I am so happy for Sophie. She has really worked hard on her game and is starting to be rewarded for her effort and dedication,”, DeJonge said.
The JV and Varsity Girls Basketball teams will host Ravenna on Friday, February 9th. The JV game will begin at 6:00 pm, and Varsity begins at 7:30 pm. “It’s a really big game!”, said Principal Jason McVoy. “Not only is it a big rivalry game, but it’s also Snowcoming here at the high school. This winning streak is just adding to the excitement and pride running through our hallways. It will be an exciting game, for sure!”
The Oakridge Varsity Basketball team is 12-0 in the WMC and an overall record of 13-3 for the season.
