Kari Wiersema, the Muskegon County Coordinator for the newly launched KickStart to Career program sent the following message:
I am excited to introduce myself, Kari Wiersema, as the new KickStart to Career – Muskegon County Coordinator! Each district superintendent has signed an agreement to participate in this program.
Starting this school year, the KickStart to Career (KtC) program will give each kindergarten student in Muskegon County access to a “deposit only” savings account. The Community Foundation for Muskegon County (CFMC) will hold the pooled fund account and will be using a database to track separate student deposits as they are made. The CFMC will make the initial $50 deposit and students and families will be encouraged to make additional deposits as they grow their accounts to be used for educational purposes after high school graduation. KickStart to Career will be partnering with banks and credit unions to assist in the deposits and student financial education.
We are looking to have the student accounts prepared and ready for the first $50 deposit in January 2019. A point of contact person at Oakridge Lower Elementary will be established that will assist in the launch process with our local students. In the coming months, parents of currently enrolled Kindergarten students (at Oakridge) will receive information.
