Middle School Track 

Track and field is one of the only sports in which there truly is SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE! Seriously! Track and field gives athletes the opportunity to perform in a wide variety of events: long and short distance running, throwing, jumping, and relays. Each and every member of the team contributes to the success of the entire team by performing their own, unique talents. Even though track is a team sport, athletes have the ability to excel at their own events on an individual level. Each athlete’s individual success truly depends on the amount of work and dedication that athlete personally chooses to put forth. This is unlike other sports where the athletes’ success – as far as wins or loses – depends on the overall success of the team. Yes, the success of the track team is certainly important, but it takes every athlete’s individual effort to create a successful team. Track and field is a fun exciting sport that EVERYONE can participate in. Come out and see for yourself!

Physicals: all athletes must have a sports physical on file with the school in order to practice.

Practices: these are everyday after school from 3:00 to 4:30. They are required!! If you can not be at practice you MUST talk to one of the coaches, do not send the message with another student. There is a difference between excused and unexcused absences:
*** Doctor appointment-excused with note, hair cut-not excused!!

Apparel: for practice please dress in temperature appropriate clothes. Wind/sweat pants or shorts, t-shirt, sweatshirt, hats, gloves, running shoes. Dressing in layers is recommended, we can always take a sweatshirt off, but it’s hard to put it on if you don’t have it!! Track uniforms of shorts and top will be handed out in the 2nd week of practice. Track spikes are encouraged, but by no means a necessity.

Meets: Meets will be on Monday or Wednesday. They begin at 4:00 and should be over by 7:00. Students must ride the bus to and from the event unless a parent signs you out with a coach.. If we have an away meet and are planning to stop for dinner, we will let the athletes know in advance.
Each athlete is allowed to compete in 3 events and is expected to remain at the meet till it is over. They are encouraged to cheer on their teammates after they have completed their events. Leaving early must be approved by the coaches in advance of the meet.

Eligibility: The student handbook is followed. A student that receives a F in any class will receive a warning. A student receiving an F in 2+ classes is unable to participate for 2 full weeks and must attend tutoring during this time.
