Student Council Members: The new list of students that signed up for recycling duty this Friday has been posted. Please check to see if you signed up. Thank You to Shaw Raymond for working past his lunch time to make sure all the recycling was picked up.

Cooking Matters will be starting another class which begins today thru March 9th. This class will be held in the middle school cafeteria on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 – 5:00pm. Please stop down to the Teen Health Center to register if you are interested.

Eagle Travelers will be hosting a Family Bowling Event on Sunday, March 19 from 1 until 3 pm. Tickets are $15/person and $55/family. Your ticket includes 2 hours of unlimited cosmic bowling, shoe and ball rental, 2 slices of pizza and a pop. Please see Mrs. Carlson or Mr. Taylor if you have any questions. Tickets are available in the HS and MS office.

Congratulations to the 7th grade volleyball team on last night’s victory over Hart. The ladies swept the Pirates with scores of 21-9, 21-14, 21-8, and 21-17. High scorers for the evening were:
Saidee Raap with 14 total points, 10 in a row with 5 of those being Aces.
Delaney Ruel and EmaLeigh Bitson each had 7 points
Brooklyn Cooper had 6 points
Paige Primmer added 5 points serving for the team
Adding on offense were
Delaney with 4 spikes
Saidee, Brooklyn, Brianna Benson, and Jasmine Pastor each with 3 spikes
And EmaLeigh, Jacelyn Leiter, Paige Primmer, and Lexy Wright also contributing to the attack. While these scores were great, hearing from the officials and other team’s coaches about my team’s sportsmanship and effort on the court was even better! Keep up the good work ladies! Practice Monday from 3-5pm. Please let coach Dutton know if you need a ride!

The 8th Volleyball team defeated Hart last night with the best performance of the season. The lady Eagles are starting to a good stride of understanding the offense and defense. The team had a serving percentage of 82% last night with 11 of the 16 players having an Ace. During one game, the Eagles only used 3 servers to defeat the pirates. The ladies also had over 31 sets, 26 attacks, and 12 kills. A personal note to the 8th grade team; Sorry that I did not mention names, but this announcement would have 10 minutes long. You ALL played awesome last night! Good job!

They will be on sale for $0.25 Valentine’s week during breakfast and lunch. Fill them out for friends, loved ones, or anyone who you want to show how much you care. Hearts will be on display for the entire month of February! Remember to bring your money to lunch today.

Ms. Doney is inviting all 7th & 8th grade students to participate in a new Health Club called Rally against Peer Pressure. This club will meet after school with a guest speaker. This club will explore deeper into health topics discussed in the classroom and promotes abstinence from dangerous activities including drugs and alcohol. Please see Ms. Doney if you want to sign up! The group will meet 1 day/week (either Tuesday or Wednesday depending on student vote).

Congratulations to the 7th grade volleyball team on their 3-1 record over Ravenna last night. Scores were: 21-13, 22-20, 22-20, and 19-21. The team’s offense was strong starting with their serving. 11/14 girls had serving percentages over 80%. High point earners were:
Brooklyn Cooper with 10 points
Lexy Wright with 8 points
Delaney Ruel with 7 points
Jasmine Pastor and Saidee Raap with 6 points each and
Emaleigh Bitson and Paige Primmer with 5 points each
Also on the offensive attack were Delaney with 8 spikes, Saidee with 6 spikes and Brianna Benson with 2 spikes each. Keep up the hard work and improvement ladies!!

Last night the 8th grade girls played Ravenna. The girls implemented a new defense strategy last night in which the girls had the most digs, 10, as a team. The team also had a season high of 3 blocks. On the offensive side of the ball the team set up the offense over 30 times and had 22 attacks, in which 7 were kills. Good job last night ladies. We play Hart on Thursday. We will be stopping to eat on the way home.

The Winter Reading Challenge began last week. Check out the Big Candy Land Game Board outside of the office. The students that have taken AR quizzes, and the number of words they read, are posted on the game board. Remember, your ULTIMATE goal is to read 150,000 words during the month of February. The students that read at least 150,000 will be invited to an Ice Cream Party in March. As you take AR quizzes this month, the number of words in each book will be tallied for you. The Big Game Board is tracking student progress in 20,000 word increments. Make sure you check it out to see if you can find your name. The board will be updated on Monday each week. We already have 2 students that have read over 150,000 words this month! Make sure to congratulate Tristin Personette and Christian Welborn when you see them. Great job you two. Who will be the next name at the top of the game board? Will it be you?? Keep reading and lets have a HUGE ice cream party in March.

The 7th grade volleyball team started their season off last night with a battle against Whitehall yesterday. The girls finished 1-3 with scores of 18-21, 16-21, 21-10 and 10-21. Serving points for the team were:
Joanna Kowalkowski with 6 points
Paige Primmer with 5 points
Maddi Wilcox and Saidee Raap each with 4 points.
Also with high serving percentages for the evening were:
EmaLeigh Bitson, Ali Ehnen, Jasmine Pastor with 75% accuracy and Lexy Wright with 100% accuracy. Also contributing to our offense was Jasmine Pastor with a spike and Brooklyn Cooper with 4 sets. Good job ladies! Be ready to practice hard today and get ready for our game against North Muskegon tomorrow!
Yesterday the 8th grade girls’ volleyball team played Whitehall. Once the girls let their nerves settle down, they played great. The Lady Eagles had a 78% serving success as a team. Emma Blackburn, Kyla Stewart, Leah Lowry, Hayden Ruel, Jenna Stovell and Riann Fri all had serving aces. Jayde Norton had 100% serving with over 5 serves. As a team, the girls had 8 attacks. The Lady Eagles’ next game is this Thursday at North Muskegon.

Today is Student Count Day. Teachers please remember to take attendance as soon as possible.

Our Middle School Winter Dance is coming up on Friday, February 3, from 3:00-5:00, in the Gym. The dance is called “A Winter Wonderland” and is being called a FORMAL dance. What does it mean when we call the dance FORMAL?
We would like students to follow the following guidelines (but keep in mind that the handbook guidelines are in effect also).
no ripped jeans or hoodies
girls are encouraged to wear dresses or skirts
boys are encouraged to wear dress pants and a dress/collared shirt
You MUST BE IN SCHOOL all day, in order to attend the dance.
That means that you MAY NOT LEAVE SCHOOL EARLY to get ready (hair, clothes, etc.) and then come back to school for the dance.
You can wear your dress clothes to school. Please see Mrs. Coletta, or one of our Student Council members, if you have any questions.

boys are encouraged to wear dress pants and a dress/collared shirt
You MUST BE IN SCHOOL all day, in order to attend the dance.
That means that you MAY NOT LEAVE SCHOOL EARLY to get ready (hair, clothes, etc.) and then come back to school for the dance.
You can wear your dress clothes to school. Please see Mrs. Coletta, or one of our Student Council members, if you have any questions.

Ms. Doney is inviting all 7th & 8th grade students to participate in a new Health Club called Rally against Peer Pressure. This club will meet after school with a guest speaker. This club will delve deeper into health topics discussed in the classroom and promotes abstinence from dangerous activities including drugs and alcohol. Please see Ms. Doney if you want to sign up! The group will meet 1 day/week (either Tuesday or Wednesday depending on student vote).

Detention will be held at 11:15pm in Room #2 with Mr. Bassett.

Today is a half day for all students. School will be dismissed at 11:05 am. We are holding hours 4, 5 and 6.

Today is another Teen’s United Day. Students and staff are wearing orange in support of this program.
