Mr. VanHeest

Hello, my name is Tom Van Heest. I have been privileged to work at Oakridge since 1986. My current position as English Language Arts instructor is a tremendous blessing because two of my favorite hobbies are reading and writing.

I am also a huge sports fan: football, numero uno; hockey, runner up.

My hope is that this website will be a great learning tool for my students, as well as, for me.

Please feel free to contact me by email or phone.

Mr.Van Heest’s Expectations:

1. Students should be ready to learn when the bell rings.

2. Students should have their textbook, an Accelerated Reader book, a planner, and a writing instrument. In order to use a bathroom/locker pass, you must have your planner. Do not abuse this privilege, however. If you do not use your planner during the MP, you can earn extra credit.

3. On AR days, students must read an AR book or take an AR quiz.

4. Students should put their name and the date in the upper right hand corner of their paper and turn in assignment on time for full credit.

5. Students will respect teachers, students, and the property of others at all times.

6. Profanity will not be tolerated.

7. Please record your name and the book title on the AR book checkout list. When you are done reading the book, return the book promptly and cross off your name on the checkout sheet.

(Books are stored alphabetically—by author’s lastname—on the book shelf. I would greatly appreciate it if you would take extra good care of these books so they can have as long a life as possible.)

8. Let’s all try to work together, be positive, and have some fun. Smiles and laughter are welcomed.
