Weekly Message from Mrs. Cantu (Dec 1)

Dear Oakridge F.A.M.I.L.Y.

Though it doesn’t seem possible given our current weather, December is upon us and I have heard snow is on the horizon. Please remember to have your children dress in layers and be prepared for recess with coats, boots, hats, mittens, and snow pants. Please also be watching the regular news outlets and be listening for the call out should the weather get bad and school needs to be cancelled.
We have been super busy here at the Upper Elementary! As many of you know, before the Thanksgiving break, 6th graders in Mrs. Graves’ class raised money to send care packages to some of our troops stationed overseas. They were mailed out this week! We’re so proud of everyone who was involved.

Our Health classes were focused on nutrition in action this week with the help of the Muskegon YMCA’s health and nutrition experts. The students even got to play Jenga to represent the importance of dairy to our bones and the tower is a bone but when pieces are pulled out and porous, it represents Osteoporosis.

Mrs. Buzzell’s 5th grade class has been busy decorating lunch bags to send to Kids Food Basket to help feed hungry kids in Muskegon county.
Our kiddos are also really diving into their new Ready Gen curriculum. 6th graders are working in groups to examine articles about the Ancient Maya to prepare for their next writing assignment.
