Our School

Weekly Message from Mrs. Cantu – March 2

Dear OUE F.A.M.I.L.Y.

Happy March is Reading Month! As you surely know by now, OUE has been transformed for March is Reading Month to support our effort of One Book, One Community. Our theme for the month is “Overcoming Hardships with acceptance and Family” as our whole school reads The War that Saved My Life by Kimberley Brubaker Bradley. If you have not yet read this book, I strongly encourage you to read along with your student and ask them questions. Also, take a look at the calendar of events that are planned throughout the month. It’s already shaping up to be pretty exciting here!
OUE March is Reading Month Decore
We are starting something new here at OUE in order to help support our district’s mission of college preparation by building our conversation about college as a foundation step toward that goal! Here’s our your kids can participate:
  • College Gear Friday will be the first SCHOOL Friday of the month, with the exception of April which will actually be March 29, the day before Spring Break
  • You may wear a hat on College Gear Friday ONLY if that hat is also representing that college
  • You must be wearing something with the college logo or name for it to “count”- can’t just wear school colors
  • All students who wear college gear on those days will receive a Gold Medal
We only have a few times left to participate this school year. Let’s make them count!
There is still time to register for our Spring TTQ (Total Trek Quest) season at Oakridge Upper Elementary!! The season will start on March 27 and end with our final 5K at the Run for Wings on June 9th. TTQ is a fun, high energy after school program designed exclusively for boys in 3rd-5th grade. TTQ incorporates strength and stretching exercises with training for a 5K. Boys in this program will develop positive peer relationships and feel a part of a team while working toward individual goals. Additional practice activities focus on developing a healthy lifestyle, social/relationship skills, how to make healthy choices, and resisting peer pressure. Teams practice 2 times a week for our 9 week season  plus one for spring break)right after school  for 90 minutes. This season, we have online registration for the 1sttime—just go to https://www.raceplanner.com/register/index/TTQSpring2018 to register your son. Scholarships ARE still available—contact Brandon at bmelnyk@arborcircle.org for more information. We have Coach Gina and Coach Dom coming back , so we can’t wait for the spring season at RPEL to start!
Enjoy the sun and your weekend!
