Weekly Message from Mrs. Cantu (March 9th)

Dear OUE F.A.M.I.L.Y.

It’s been a wonderful full week of March here at the OUE. We have spent much of our time focused on our March is Reading Month book, The War that Saved My Life. Students wore PJ’s, brought in flashlight, and experienced reading in very dark rooms to simulate “blackout” times like those experienced by families during WWII. We also had many students participate in creating their own versions of Anderson Shelters like those created and used during the war as well.

Last night I was able to participate in OUE’s Family Engineering Night hosted by Mr. Erndteman, our STEAM teacher. This was so much fun! Thank you to the MAISD’s Regional Math and Science Center for all of the different table activities for families, Eagle Alloy for sharing their time and Foundry-in-a-Box (always a hit), OUE staff who helped out as well as NHS students from the HS. Thank you to all of our families who took time out of your busy evening to explore and learn together with your students!

As many of you know, Oakridge strives to create a culture of college and career readiness. At the UE, our students are learning 21st century skills as they participate in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) twice a week. These are important skills that impact future success for Oakridge students.
Enjoy your weekend!
