Academic Program

Mission Statement:

The community of Oakridge Public Schools exists to prepare every student, within a safe and healthy environment, with a globally competitive education focused on college preparation, workplace success, and lifelong learning.

As our mission statement implies, student growth and preparation for success is a top priority. Oakridge Public Schools provides a comprehensive curriculum for K-12th grade including specialized programs for GSRP and adult/alternative education. The curriculum department supports professional learning opportunities for all staff to stay current with educational initiatives in order to provide the best learning experiences for our students.

Curriculum, assessment, and instruction are looked at through the following questions:

  • What do we want our students to learn? (Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum/Learning Targets)
  • How will we know they are learning? (Assessment System)
  • What research-based instructional practices will be used to ensure high levels of learning for all students? (Instruction)
  • What will we do if student are not learning or have already learned the material? (Access to Intervention or Enrichment)

In September of 2012, the Oakridge Public Schools Superintendent and Board of Education made a commitment to create a three- to five-year strategic plan. The School Board created a partnership with the Michigan Association of School Boards to serve as facilitators for this project. The district, under the leadership of the School Board President and Superintendent, completed a process that was data-driven, inclusive of district stakeholders and focused on the priorities that will help the district succeed. Our Strategic Planning Team, comprised of a very broad and diverse group of 31 stakeholders, developed the goals. We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with all sectors of our community to implement these goals and suggested strategies. During the past few years we have seen several positive results from these diligent efforts including four all time high MEAP scores, our elementary school being name a “Beating the Odds” building, seven consecutive years of all time high ACT scores, Oakridge High School being ranked the highest rated High School in Muskegon County on Michigan’s Top-to-Bottom list, and being named as a bronze medal on the U.S. News and World Report best schools in the United States.

We are grateful for the continued partnership and collaboration between each of stakeholders: students, parents, staff, and community that make a Oakridge “A Place to Soar”. If you have questions, comments, or need additional information please feel to contact me directly at (231) 788-7111.
