Pay to Participate

Oakridge High School athletes are required to pay $50.00 to participate in their first sport, and $25 for each additional sports season they participate in. Pay to Participate fees cover all sports played by the athlete for the current school year. An athlete must have the fee paid by the first athletic practice in his/her given sport or he/she will not be allowed to participate until the fee is paid. Athletic Physicals

Oakridge High School requires that student-athletes have a current physical on file before participating (meaning practice) with any athletic team. A current year physical is one given on or after April 15th of the previous school year.

MHSAA

Oakridge High School is a member of and follows all the MHSAA rules of eligibility and competition. The MHSAA promotes a philosophy for junior high/middle school athletics that states that the program should parallel that of the academic philosophy of junior high/middle schools. Schools should encourage participation and experiences in a variety of activities. The goal of “winning” must be superseded by the goal of participation.

Sportsmanship

The MHSAA and the West Michigan Conference have developed guidelines for our schools to follow to ensure good sportsmanship in our conference. Many officials feel that our conference is the best in the area for our sportsmanship, and we want to keep it that way. The guidelines listed below are not all-inclusive but should give schools a good idea as to what is appropriate and what is not. The administrators in the West Michigan Conference encourage student groups in the stands, but we also have a duty to ensure that what is being done is appropriate. We hope that you will be loud and have a great time rooting on your team in a positive manner. If you have a question whether something is appropriate or not, ask first.

Please remember that the host has the authority to ask the fans to stop doing something that they feel is a distraction or not appropriate. We are trying to streamline the conference rules, but there are some things that some schools will allow and others will not.
